Wouldn't escape velocity depend on the type of technology being used?

That is, our rocket technology has to accelerate to Mach 25 to
leave the Earth.  However, if antigravity is what propels UFOs
all they'd have to do is counter the Earth's gravity and
literally "float" away from it.
Is this correct or am I missing something here?
