Kathleen, they are only talking about organically based
technologies in terms of computers. There are lots more uses for
silicon than just inside the CPU chip of your computer. Silicon
semiconductors are very good, for instance, at controlling high
power. Connect one of your organic thingies up to a 50,000 watt
power bus and then watch it sizzle! Silicon is going to remain
useful for a long time to come.

As for imagination about aliens, I think there is plenty of that

One of the mysteries about UFOs is the way they have always
appeared to have technology that is just barely ahead of our
own, and seemingly of a nature that is straight ahead on the
path that our own development will take us in a few years.
Airships in the 1800's before we had 'em -- but not long before.
When we had propeller driven airplanes, UFOs could manage a few
hundred miles an hour; enough to keep out of the way, but not
blindingly fast. When we got jets, UFOs got faster too. When we
went supersonic, UFOs started flying like a streak of sh**. So
what is their level of technology, really? Are they just barely
keeping ahead of us? Hardly seems likely to most people. But why
hold back to match the current level of human development? No
good reason for that either, unless they're trying to teach us

Myself, I like to toy with the idea that in order to manifest
themselves in this reality, they have to play by its rules --
unless they more or less fit in with the current paradigm of our
planetary consciousness, they can't be here at all. There, how's
that for imagination?
