Alas, but it does. Take an orange, or some other equally
puncturable, round object. Drive a wooden dowel through the
center, to represent the moon's axis.

Now, select some other round object (preferably to scale, just
because it looks better) to be the earth. Mark the side of your
orange that will face the "earth".

Move the orange around your faux-earth, keeping your mark facing
the earth...

[Cue Jeopardy "waiting" music]

.....Ah, you're back! Did you, or did you not, have to allow the
orange to rotate once for each trip around the earth?

Granted, the mark faced the earth the whole time, but the orange
still rotated relative to you, didn't it?

It rotated once for each trip around, and so does the real

It's all a matter of perspective.

Our Sun and every other planet and heavenly body out there sees
the moon rotate. We're the only ones who don't.

Hope this helps, and enjoy the orange!
