20-Hour Miniseries "Taken" Brings Steven
Spielberg to Sci Fi Channel

NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--April 22, 1999--
Long before Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan,
Steven Spielberg challenged the imaginations of
filmgoers with E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third
Kind, thereby helping to define for generations what
the intergalactic future might hold.

Nearly two decades have passed since audiences
tearfully watched E.T. phone home. Now, Steven
Spielberg makes a new journey, as he joins forces
with SCI FI Channel to return to one of his first loves
-science fiction. In 3Q 2000, Spielberg and
DreamWorks Television will present Taken, a 20-hour
original dramatic event, which will be produced
exclusively for SCI FI. Taken's 20-hour length also
marks it as the most ambitious miniseries ever
produced for broadcast television or cable.

SCI FI was Spielberg's first choice for his return to
the genre which he was so instrumental in shaping.
The channel's renewed commitment to, and
investment in, producing the freshest and most
original sci-fi programming on television has paid off
with breakout ratings in recent months. By the time
Taken airs in 3Q 2000, SCI FI will have more than
doubled its programming budget from '98 -- making it
second only to sister channel USA Network in its
commitment to original series and production for basic
cable in prime. Together, Spielberg, DreamWorks
Television and SCI FI form a unique alliance, as they
usher sci-fi into the coming millennium.

``As a 20-hour miniseries,'' said Spielberg, ``the
project can give us the opportunity to involve viewers
in a way that combines the narrative scope of movies
with the luxury of unfolding that adventure over a
much longer period of time. There clearly was no other
place but SCI FI Channel for a project of this
magnitude. At SCI FI, fans like myself can imagine and
experience the wonders and possibilities of the
science fiction universe.''

Taken is an epic science fiction adventure that weaves
together over 50 years of alien abductions into the
compelling story of one man's experiences. The
miniseries, which begins production this summer,
promises to be one of TV's most ambitious productions
ever. Exploring a series of personal stories and events
which defy the traditional confines of a two-hour
feature film or even a four-hour miniseries, SCI FI will
present this unprecedented 20-hour television
milestone in two-hour installments over a span of ten
days.

SCI FI Channel is a USA Company (NASDAQ:USAI-news)
transmitting fantastic images to over 55 million
human homes. SCI FI features a continuous stream of
cinematic hits, new and original series, and special
events, as well as classic sci-fi, fantasy, and horror
programming. Check out SCIFI.COM, the SCI FI's award-
winning Web site, at www.scifi.com.
