Jan - Ouch. That last sideswipe hurt, since we were its authors,
and it was made prior to hearing his radio show when we realized
what we were dealing with. Still, we think a window of innocent
before proven guilty is in the long term a healthy one.
Otherwise, UFO activists may become the new thought police
themselves.

Stephens appears to be a "guided missile," a spreader of
mis/disinformation whose function it is to get the UFO community
confused and attacking each other. "Guided missiles" also appear
in other fields of public interest research, such as
assassination research.

The best way for the UFO community to understand the technology
of "guided missiles" or agents of mis/disinformation - a
phenomenon of the UFO field - is not to awfulize and attack
other UFO students.

It is to study the characteristics of guided missiles like
Stephens, and understand what is their source, where do they
come from, and what is their profile.

This way, the capacity of an individual mis/disinformer to
ruffle our conversation is reduced, because we can
systematically understand them as a phenomenon, not as specific
individuals.

If you will notice the subtlety of our letter, we alluded to the
possibility that Stephens was indeed a mis/disinformation agent
("Colonel (sic)"). We felt that at that point due process had
not yet taken its course.

We too are students of the phenomenon of disinformation agents.
And sometimes it is wiser to observe than to react prematurely.

In some ways, Stephens has given us a productive research case
of how the mis/disinformation phenomenon works.

This is an alternative, positive way of looking at the Stephens
hiccup.
