It is flatter than a pacncake at an altitude over 6500 feet, is surrounded by mountains up to 10,000 feet and was a lake bed until about 5000 years ago. It is a very sparsely inhabited area. The land was cheap, flat, and, of great importance, out of reach of most radio noise background. Even though I am convinced that indeed an alien sapcecraft crashed in the area in July 1947, the people I talked to felt it was cheap land in an ideal location for listening. There is a Y shaped track with each leg about 12 miles long.. Catron County was the least populated of all NM counties. The Farr Ranch is 120,000 acres. The Plains is about 60miles by 20 miles with the Continental Divide alongs its Western Edge and Magdalena at its NE corner. We saw herds of antelope while flying over it in a helicopter. Stan Friedman
