Previously, Steven had offered:

Agreed.

I don't make light of security oaths, however, I'm not sure
anything would really change in the future if the rules
governing disclosure are modified. Allowing people to talk about
what they've seen is one thing; allowing them to take away proof
to show to the world is something else.

As Serge wisely pointed out during the SETI debate some time
back, all the government has to do is release thousands of
classified documents that ALREADY exist relating to UFOs and the
like. Even without changing regulations regarding security
oaths, the release of these old documents would go a long way
toward satisfying the UFO community. If these old documents
won't be declassified, then there's no reason to believe that
future documentation would be made available to any "UFO
whistle-blower" that wants to kiss and tell about the
government's involvement with UFOs.

In my opinion, lack of proof will still be the bug-a-boo, no
matter how much talking is done.

Later,

Roger Evans
