TYLER -- An electrical explosion had some people thinking that a
UFO had landed Sunday night.  

Frightened customers from Denny's restaurant and Dunkin' Donuts
were left in the dark, literally. The sound of power lines
buzzing and popping could be heard. Live wires sparked, and
then, a blinding explosion. The night sky filled with a bright
bluish light.

The fire department, Tyler police, and TU electric worked to fix
the sudden disaster. The Denny's restaurant and Dunkin' Donuts
were evacuated. Luckily, there were no injuries.

Kim Sharp, an eyewitness said, "The sky just lit up. I mean it
was almost like daylight, then the lights in Dunkin' Donuts went
out. Everybody was screaming and running to the front door and
then they said, =91no, go back, go back, go back, and it was like
I said ,'I thought it was a UFO.'

NBC 56 News learned on Tuesday all electrical wires and poles
were fixed. The trouble began when an 18-wheeler ran over a
guy-wire. The released tension of the guy-wire caused the end
pole to literally split in half. Power lines began to fall and
there were electrical shortages for miles.

TU electricians said despite what people thought, it was not a
faulty transformer that blew up. It was the negligence of a

"We had all our customers on with the exception of La Quinta
Motor Inn, probably about three o'clock this morning and we
since made all repairs and everything's back to normal," said
Steve White of TU electric.

Eyewitnesses said they did see the truckdriver, but he fled the
scene almost immediately.
