My reference to confiscation was in reply to your first
message of Jan 15 in which you said:

"My father worked for a local TV station on the remote crew for
the better part of 45 years. He told me often how police
officers or government officials had confiscated field tapes
from his unit minutes after taping had been completed on some
story. These guys would arrive out of nowhere in the field and
descend on my dad's news truck. Sometimes a reason was given,
sometimes not. In every instance, my father was warned not to

Now you imply they don't identify themselves, confiscate, and
basically do whatever they please without recourse.

Any law enforcement official has to identify himself or risk
the consequences of an individual exercising self defense, and
resisting until the cows come home.

>Well, for starters, my father and his co-workers did nothing to
>violate any laws, so your assertion simply isn't true.

You are reading things between the lines that are not there.I
was NOT asserting or implying anything re your father. You
certainly didn't provide enough details to make any judgment
about your father's activities. His reasons for how he reacted
to this confiscation are his own.

I was simply saying what I would do given the limited scenario
you gave.

In your Jan 17 reply to me you said:

"I have no doubt from the way you present your
arguments that you, genuinely, do not fear the government.
But I think you should."

My opinion is as stated above. If you're not doing something
illegal you have no reason to fear the govmt and don't have to
tolerate illegal conduct by any govmt employee, local, state,
or federal.

>Secondly, no offense, but you seem to be confusing two concepts:

>2) The honesty of the government.

We'll have to agree to disagree. The govmt is honest, althoughI
may feel some policies are misguided and wrong.

Some employees on the other hand may not be honest. If they do
something illegal they SHOULD be fearful just like any other
individual operating illegally..

You can have the last word and post to the list on this subject.
Since it's just you and I discussing it for the most part, I'll
reply further as necessary privately.
