Don, I think you are subconsciously 'adding in' details to the
X-15 case, which as far as I remember it, actually DID occur in
space, not 'within the atmosphere'. Do you have any evidence
that this flight in question and this sighting in question was
in the atmosphere?

I don't think NASA or other real space experts are 'getting
away' with the ice explanation, I think it's become this
generation's 'swamp gas', a story at which all manner of
ridicule and ignorant mockery is aimed, to discredit it as the
true, prosaic explanation of some striking visula cases which
seem to have gotten mainstream ufologist blessing.
