Dear John, James, List:

I've been so busy lately that I've had to delete many messages
without reading them just to keep my mail box from becoming
overloaded (wish I had the time to read them all but I don't).
Today I took off work and to give myself a break from all the
work I have to do (income tax, FAFSA's, job apps) I thought I'd
treat myself to a little look-see into the world of UFO's, etc.

I opened this message and found myself scratching my head
wondering what the heck was going on. I found John's question
about the object possibly being "intra-atmospheric" a logical
proposal. And I thought Mr. Oberg's suggestion about finding the
missing data (date, time, angular rate) apropos as well. So, (I
wondered) why are we now discussing Mr. Oberg's nationality, the
color of his shirt (i.e. "attitude") and control issues? What
has all this got to do with what seemed to be a reasonable
discussion moving along about an unknown object or light in a
photograph of the moon taken in 1956?

In order to catch up, I went to the Updates archives and
followed this discussion ("1956 Lunar Path Light") originally
posted by Mr. Ted Phillips on Saturday, February 14, 2004 to
today's posts. Some people outright dismissed the photograph as
a hoax while others began calculating distances, "arc's", sizes,
etc. with almost no data to go on except the photograph and the
information relayed by the photographer. We did much the same
thing with the Whittlesea UFO photograph.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with speculating and
calculating but why is it necessary to berate someone for asking
pertinent questions? Both John's and Mr. Oberg's questions were
important to the discussion. Why do so many interesting and
productive discussions degenerate into name-calling, accusations
and word-fights?

Most of the people on this List, I presume, are here to learn
about UFO's and what's going on (aka - the truth). This list
alone has a tremendous concentration of educated and
professional participants (skeptics and believers alike). I
often picture all of us sitting around a table as in a board
meeting, face-to-face, and respond accordingly.

In a professional setting, many of the tiffs and fights we see
on this List would not be openly tolerated (of course the
politics would remain as an undercurrent). Pointing fingers and
calling people names, as well as other immature tactics, is
counter-productive and a waste of time. If their jobs depended
on their abilities to discuss without fighting, how many on this
list would find themselves unemployed? ;> (Poor Errol. What he
must go through!)

If we listen, _really_ listen, to what each person is saying and
pretend we are talking face-to-face rather than keyboard-to-
screen, we can learn so much from each other. Extend the same
respect to others as you would have extended to yourself. Focus
on the issues not the emotions. And, above all, remember there
are no sides in the search for the truth. There may be many
paths but there is only one truth. We are all in this together.
