Hi Eleanor,

That's an important point to note.

Some years ago I put that point in a letter to BBC Feedback
prog: that presenters and editors used three sneaky methods to
downplay or promote contributors' material:

1) cut-short or talk-over last words of a speaker - destroys
sentence completion and obliterates 'listener recall';

2) leave a significant pause after a speaker - gives the point
extra emphasis and 'listener recall';

3) give speaker the program or item's last word - sticks in
listener's mind, has most 'authority'.

The independent Feedback presenter put those points to a
communications expert who agreed that they were the most
efficient (radio) influencers of opinion.

Afterwards the independent guy was fired and the BBC put their
own man on the Feedback prog.

Cheers

Ray D
