Psychological denial is an amazing thing. Denial of probability is even more so, Mr. Rudiak. A fledgling culture approaching a technology unforgiving to a predilection for self-destruction adds to its own gambit incredulity to think it would not be detected far in advance of itself detecting extra-planetary intelligence.
