Remember that everyone discounted meteorites until they simply
could not get away with it any longer.

Remember that falls of blocks of ice like this have been
reported for hundreds of years, long before airplanes were a
convenient excuse.

Two things need to be done. First someone needs to take some
samples from the inside of one of these blocks and analyze the
water. Water from terrestrial sources ought to show specific
contaminants.

Secondly, someone should calculate the mass of the ice block
when it hit, and figure out from that and the damage just how
fast it was moving.

I think what we're seeing in some of these cases is what is left
of large ice meteors, large enough that a big chunk survives and
doesn't completely vaporize as it falls through our atmosphere.

We know that some comets are made up mostly of ice, and there
may be ice asteroids as well. Ice meteors is not a particularly
big stretch.
