UFO Lovelights In Lynn's Night Sky

Mysterious orange lights spotted in the sky over Lynn sparked
speculation and more than a few outlandish theories over the
weekend.

The UFOs were seen by residents across the town at around 5.30pm
on Saturday, prompting a number of calls and e-mails to the Lynn
News from intrigued residents.

"They certainly were like nothing I have seen before. They all
moved very slowly together and it was very strange.

"There was no noise and after a few minutes they just faded and
vanished," said Jacqueline Hunt, of Hillen Road, South Lynn

There were theories the lights were bombs, signals from a ship
at sea, helicopters and alien spaceships.

The lights were in fact Chinese-style lanterns released at a
wedding reception being held at the town's Riverside Restaurant,
on King Street.

The happy couple had wanted something a bit different on their
special day and no-one at the restaurant expected the resulting
fuss.

Owner Miss Pat Isbill said: "They were called glow lanterns and
worked on the same principle as a hot air balloon. I had never
seen them before. They were quite large =96 at least two foot tall
=96 and they were very effective.

"We had police permission to set them off, so we didn't cause
any full-scale emergencies!"

Miss Diane Breedon, a member of staff at the restaurant, was
surprised when she realised the lanterns were the hot topic of a
Radio Norfolk phone-in on Sunday.

"All these people had phoned and texted in to say they had seen
amber lights in the sky at around 5.30pm, and I remembered that
was when we set them off.

"People were putting two and two together and making five,
thinking they were bombs from Marham or alien air craft. I
phoned in and put everyone straight," she explained.

Now, as they say, the truth really is out there.
