On Egyptian Mysteries And UFOs
Dwain Walden

A few days ago, there was a report of a UFO out near the county
line. Now I have never seen an unidentified flying object in the
conventional sense although there were a couple of times in high
school when something would come sailing through the air in the
lunch room that was not specifically defined other than being
some form of protein.

An unidentified flying object does not automatically imply a
spaceship from another galaxy. It could be totally of this earth
but not something typically seen by many people - like an honest
politician on a trampoline.

No one ever has a clear photo of a UFO. Paris Hilton can wear a
short skirt with no underwear and there will be ten thousand
shots of her on the web within the hour. Yet, an alleged UFO can
be reported hovering along a major highway and no one has a
camera. Never, ever.

A recent Discovery channel documentary explored the mysteries of
ancient Egypt. And drawn on the inside walls of some of the
tombs and pyramids are designs that look like helicopters and
submarines. One drawing resembles two spaceships fighting.

The prevailing question of that documentary was: In those very
early days in Egypt, was earth visited by extraterrestrials? And
I suppose by extension, given reported UFOs sightings in modern
times, do they come back occasionally still hoping to find
intelligent life, or do they just find Paris Hiltons?

Of course time has its way of diminishing etchings so what might
appear to be a helicopter thousands of years later might
actually have been the first blueprint for an egg beater.

On the "Rants and Raves" line the other day, a fellow said he
thought he had seen a UFO, but on closer inspection the humming
noise was an air conditioner compressor that needed oiling and
the brightly colored lights were Christmas decorations that were
still up. I'm pretty sure this fellow was just expressing his

I have wondered about there being life out there in other
galaxies. Many of my fundamentalist friends would tell me that
I'm way off base because this is not mentioned in the Bible.
Well, there also is no one named Larry mentioned in the Bible
but you can find Larrys today in every town in the country.

I also quote from a secular source, actor Paul Newman, who told
his pool shooting student Tom Cruise, "Son, I taught you
everything you know, but I didn't teach you everything I know."
(At least I think I have the right movie there.) And sometimes
when I read the Bible, I think of God saying that to some of us
who think we are so smart. "People, I didn't tell you

In the big picture, I can perceive that we are just one tiny dot
in a magnificent display of planets, stars, meteors and black
holes. With that realization, I don't bother to watch the "Miss
Universe Pageant" nor do I care who is the father of Anna Nicole
Smith's baby. I do wonder what Donald Trump's hair would like if
he stuck his finger in a light socket.

I've always posed that man likes to romance the notion that
there are creatures out there in the dark bigger than us, faster
than us, smarter than us and scarier than us. So it's not
uncommon that Bigfoots, Loch Ness Monsters, UFOs get imagined.

I'm not saying that people aren't seeing something - things that
can't be quickly explained. But there have been so many hoaxes
revealed in this venue that skepticism and cynicism will be the
predominant reactions from most logical thinkers. But my fear is
that logical thinkers are fast becoming extinct - that we are
predominated by people anxiously awaiting news on the identity
of the father of Ms. Smith's baby. Surely someone will pose that
it is an alien.
