Peter,

Thanks for a reasoned and thoughtful post, one of the few in
this thread.

I've been following this story for some time. Yes, it is very
interesting, but I expect that the builders were 100% human. We
have this idea that human civilization isn't all that old, and
appeared in the last 7,000 years or so. Evidence that it is much
older tends to be swept under the scientific rug.

When I think of pre-human technological civilization, I am
thinking in terms of millions of years. Sixty million years or
so, in fact. I'm thinking of something evolved from dinosaur
stock, dinosauroids if you will.

Where are their cities? Their artifacts? I doubt that much would
survive that long, and we may be unable to look in the right
places. Suppose they evolved from the large- brained, large-eyed
very late dinosaurs of the Antarctic? Their cities, if anything
survived, could be under thousands of feet of ice. Or maybe they
were in places that have completely eroded down to much older
rocks.

Maybe things have been found and languish even now in museum
drawers, unrecognized for what they are. One of the first
lessons you learn as an archeologist is the famous maxim:
"Absence if evidence is not evidence of absence." Maybe I
understand this better because I was on staff at the Smithsonian
and know how their scientists work.

Anyway, I am really sick of the knee-jerk reaction some on this
List have shown to this idea. An open mind is not synonymous
with having holes in your head. It just means you haven't
allowed your brain to fossilize.

Bob
