Hi Don,

I=B4d rather say they are sky lanterns, they are quiet cheap,
which makes them available for everyone, easy to handle and they
look impressive especially at night despite their small size.

We actually use them every year after our annual Ufo meeting in
South Germany, that=B4s why I have recognized them immediately.

The parachutes with flares you have mentioned are very expensive
and used for military purposes only. They have been the stimulus
of the most famous German incident of the 20th century (the
Greifswald case).
