Dennis and the List,

In the Vedas, there were two sorts of vehicles described, it
seems to me : first, the Vimanas operated with a mysterious
source of power using mercury; and then even more mysterious
vehicles which have been often compared to modern UFOs. So, the
classical question has been since many years, that of supposed
ancient space visitors.

In a way, I am more intrigued by the description of Vimanas
using mercury. If there were such man made craft, known by
Indian civilization thousands of years ago, I wonder why, even
if that technology has been lost, it has not been found again,
during the 20th century, when many countries were scrambling for
new aeronautical technologies. And why is there no known project
of that kind now?

Let me guess.

Perhaps there was no such technology in ancient India, but there
were craft of non-human origin, and this Vimana model with
mercury was just an effort of imagination to try to explain at
least some of them.

I would like to read any comment on this.

As for the hypothesis of a very ancient and advanced human
civilization, I stick to the idea that any civilization more
advanced than ours today would have been so huge, in tems of
industrial and scientific development, that it would have left
very important, visible traces, even millions of years after it
has ceased to exist. This would be the case, in turn, for our
present civilization, even after millions of years. Just think
that we find fossiles embedded in rocks hundred of millions
years old.
