The Mechanics Of The Mayan Calendar

From my Mayan Calendar 2007:

"Mayan dates were written with four signs:

(1) a day-number from 1 to 13, written with bars and dots
(2) a day-name, one of 20, written with a day-glyph
(3) a day-of-the-month number, from zero to 19, written with
   bars and dots
(4) a month-name, one of 19, written with a month-glyph"

The calendar is very complicated and I'm not certain I should
post the entire explanation since it is copyrighted. The
calendar, if you can still purchase one, is very interesting and
has a complete description of how to read it and how it works. I
recommend anyone who is interested in this to buy one. I can't
wait to see what the calendar will look like for the year 2012
Will December 21, 2012 read: Oops, end of the World! :-)

They also have some interesting links to scientific sites on
their links page.

One view of why the Mayan calendar Ends in 2012 can be found at:

My father (a Ph.D.) has studied this culture for most of his
life and he too thinks the whole idea of the calendar ending and
all of the beliefs that go along with it, are unwarranted.

And, just as an FYI: During one of my experiences, I was shown
that the years 2012, 2020 and 2040 would be "turning point"
years for the Earth and its inhabitants. Oh-hum....
