>Coming Here, Going There
>by David Barclay

I think that we must not forget that the same relativity that
indicates that the speed of light is a limit also indicates
that time slows down as one gets close to c. The slowing down
depends on how close one gets. For example at 99.99% of c it
only takes about 6 months pilot time to go a distance of 37
light years. We physicists and mother nature make particles that
go much closer to c than that.

Furthermore, discussions about the age and size of the universe
are truly irrelevant to the question of visits from planets
around stars in our local Neighborhood such as Zeta 1 and Zeta 2
Reticuli 39.2 light years away.

Of course our understanding of physics will continue to grow.. .
we haven't been working on it that long. Universal travel is for
theoretical physicists who need topics for research projects.
Sticking closer to home seems far more appropriate to me. If I
need a loaf of bread for dinner, I don't plan a trip to a fine
bakery in Sidney, Australia. The super-store is 1.5 miles away.
Incidentally it is also convenient to think of the speed of
light as about 670 Million miles an hour. The solar system is a
few billion miles across or a few light hours.
