He should have thought it through. Personally I found his
explanation childish for someone in his line of work even with
only 7 years experience. And you are right, it is confused. You
not only learn your own business but a lot about aviation in
general.

We all know what an MOA is and steer clear of them on their
calendared dates of operation. You get a pretty good idea what's
being tested in them as well because the Notice to Airmen
[NOTAMS] give you some inkling of what is being tested. But you
don't test your one-of prototype over water unless it's a marine
application of some type. [Two of the objects were spotted, BTW]

It's incredibly stupid. Loose the damn thing and 10s of millions
of dollars go to the bottom. If you want to find out why it
failed then you have to drag the navy into it with barges and
divers and ROVs and the whole thing turns into a spectacle and
you still might not find the culprit componant that failed.
That's what's pertinent.

I don't see your reasoning re the thing glowing green or bright
yellow. That's doable for whatever reason some aircraft's design
specs would need to do it. There's a lot wrong with thinking
something this big-a mile long-was anything being built by
France and certainly not the US-and tested in broad daylight in
such a public area.

I've even seen lenticular clouds offered up. Not over water and
not at 2,000 feet. Over a mountain ridge or peak at 10 grand with
an appreciable separation of 5,000 feet or above yes.
What annoys me about that pilots's theory is how easily other
people will buy into it as an explanation.

The closest we will get to it for a long time is perhaps a 1,000
to 1,500 foot dirigible or a gas bag type blimp. Neither of those
will be proportionaly equivelant to what Ray Bowyers drew up as a
description. His drawing looked to be about 10:1 ratio [5000x500
feet], length to thickness. To get that ratio in a dirigible
would require so much bracing the thing would never get off the
ground. With a blimp, only it's shape keeps it from folding along
it's long axis due to it's own internal pressure. Below a crtical
point of pressure the winds would fold it or the cabin would make
the structure sag.

I've said this at least a dozen times regarding these huge
objects the US military in the last 2 years has spent about $1.5
billion on blimp structures that are 800 feet and less in length,
re-inventing lighter-than-air technology so they can get them up
to high altitudes and hang radar off of them among other
sophisticated detection devices. If they have this technology
already, why are they spending hundreds of millions to develop
them again? That's pertinent.
