About the Fatima 1917 Apparitions

I read with interest Nigel Watson's review of our Fatima
research and, as co-author of those two books translated into
English At EcceNova Edtions, I thank him for reading our

I must say that those two books resulted from the main text of
the original book in Portuguese Extraterrestrial Intervention
In Fatima, written at the beginning of the 1980's.

We agree, as our books shows, with the importance of the socio-
cultural context of the 1917 apparitons and their political
scenario having the atheist First Portuguese Republic in the
background, fighting against the Catholic Church and its major
historical presence in our country and the clash of the two

Therefore, Fatima was a good gift to the Church that took
advantage of it and made the events new exclusive territory. Of
course, we can say that Fatima 1917, as you know it, only could
happen in 1917. Now, any kind of similar events would be
investigated from the first moment using our scientific tools,
as we try to do with the modern "contactee messages".

Meanwhile, I must ay that if the Fatima events do not appear to
be linked with modern UFO activity, it mimics very well! It has
all the main characteristics of that kind of phenomena, since
the psycho-physiological criteria of our modern 'contactees',
their altered states of connsciousness and the several falls of
the so-called 'Angel Hair', which wase photographed in the
Fatima area during and after the Apparitions phenomena.

If we are dealing with different cultural contexts, it seems,
however, the we can propose the same essential core. In Fatima
we have not 'spacecraft', as we define them today, with our
technological spatial background; but we have "sphere of lights"
overing above the little oak, the contact spot, and dozens of
other details not sophisticated as we put them in our updated

Our consciousness try to give sense to the unknown phenomena
looking for its memory, of course. And in Fatiam we have a
significative evidence of a projection of the local religious
culture into the Unknown. We discovered, from the analysis of
the original documents and inquiries at the Fatima Sanctuary -
we were the first historians to be given access to that stuff -
that were a member of Lucia's family that was the first to
suggest that the "luminous lady" - as Lucia dos Santos described
in its first witness report - MUST be the Virgin Mary. "What
else could it be?" -he said. Well, this is the Fatima key. And
of course, as Nigel Watson quotes, the importance of the Jesuit
enculturation as Lucia's confessors during her stay in the
Spanihs monasteries ( Tuy and Pontevedra ). All this is
documented. This is not an ideological oposition to Fatima, but
simply a matter of History.

And as the ufological references we used, AT LAST, a useful
comparative study of discourses/subjectiv experiences with the
