Hi V-J

As I looked into this quite recently and it's fresh in my mind,
perhaps I can answer this.

So far as I'm aware there is no definite record of the date on
the video or anywhere else, but the May 1995 date appears to be
wrong. The original claimed date was September 1994. However,
David Rudiak

and Martin Powell

made two independent estimates of the sun position from a lens
flare and altazimuth data on the video, and arrived at two
different approximate dates somewhat later in the year (assuming
1994 to be the correct year). These are the beginning of
November and the end of November respectively.

David Rudiak then realised that the recorded weather conditions
would be a way of narrowing the brackets, and discovered that a
rapid temperature drop and accompanying heavy snowfall in the
area after Nov 9 should have left Black Mountain (7200ft,
reliably identified at the start of the video by its distinctive
profile with two radar domes) under snow cover. There is no sign
of snow on the video, therefore this favours a date close to
David's estimate around Nov 1, 1994.
