I'm still quite uneasy about this. As I understand it there is
one "triangle" video which you indicated was probably a flight
of aircraft. This is evidently the same video described in Tony
Ortega's critical piece:

The real triangle is estimated to have been seen by many
thousands, for the reason (as I've read) that so many people
were outside watching for comet Hale-Bopp. Surely some of those
hopeful comet watchers equipped themselves with video and still
cameras? But not one person apparently got a shot, whilst every
one of the four known witness groups to the 10:00PM flares
masnaged to shoot videos.

Now I take your point that some of the flare-sighters were alert
for unusual lights and had cameras ready, but this really
increases my puzzlement. A huge number of people at 8:30 were
presumably prepared to see an unusual comet - why did none of
them have cameras ready? Well, people can be absent minded, and
caught off-balance by unexpected events. So it's a good job then
that there were some people who _were_ prepared with video
cameras that night because they were hoping to see UFOs.
Unfortunately none of them reported or filmed the giant
triangle, only the flares.
