I think the responses to this have been a bit off kilter. It is
certainly true that there is scientific dishonesty and a degree
of waywardness about the article content but no more so than for
example in this from the List yesterday;

John F. Kennedy knew of extraterrestrials and wrote a memo to
CIA to release information just 12 days before his assassination

Is it alright for Ufologists to spout bunkum but not others or
is it that somehow we have implied licence but expect more from

Of more interest re. Mr. Morrison's activities is his Ask An
Astrobiologist column at the NASA Astrobiology Institute website:

There he publishes and deals with readers questions that have
been sent in to him and it is the manner in which these
questions are selected and presented that causes me concern.

There is no sub-editing of grammar and punctuation and while it
is true that the more 'serious' questions can also be subject to
poor use of the English language, somehow it is always the 'UFO'
selected queries that appear to have been written by people of
unsound mind and negligible education.

Either, as is probable, this is as a result of deliberate mis-
selection or, those who choose to write to Morrison about UFOs
are idiots. If the latter is the case, then at least one can
draw comfort from the fact that you attract the readers you

There is some unintended humour in his column as well.

The impression is given of a man harassed and exasperated at the
volume of ridiculous and conspiratorial questions asked of him
and replies are often given through gritted teeth.

Maliciously pursuing individuals via the Internet is probably a
criminal offence and so I would not like to be seen suggesting
to List members that they may want to contact Mr. Morrison at:

specifically in relation to matters such as the hoax moon
landing and why NASA keeps extraterrestrial contact secret.

Such actions might be deemed to be unhelpful and are not to be
