This whole schism between Hynek and McDonald was crafted by ex-
AAF officer Charles B. Moore. Moore lied to McDonald in a
meeting on April 28, 1966, claiming that Hynek wanted to
confront the AF over its UFO policies.

McDonald did not know this was a lie, assumed it was true, and
went to see Hynek on June 8, 1966, after reviewing the Blue Book

Based on the false info from C B Moore, McDonald assumed Hynek
would join forces with him to challenge the AF's scientifically
incompetent Project Blue Book operation.

When Hynek obviously did not know what McDonald was talking
about as to confronting the AF, McDonald had the famous
table-pounding blowup at Hynek, as recounted by Vallee who was

Later, McDonald confronted C B Moore about his false info on
Hynek and McDonald recorded that Moore admitted he had "not been
entirely honest."

Read up on this in Ann Druffel's bio of McDonald and the
supporting documents, most importantly McDonald's July 1970
draft of a letter to Hynek attempting to mend fences. Apparently
the letter was never sent though typed up for dispatch to Hynek.

Maybe Ann Eller can clarify.
