Admittedly not to its _complete_ discredit, you neatly outline
it, still. The failure of science or science failed.

Perhaps a device to humble same, the UFO pointedly _refuses_,
even mocks, analysis or measure and forecast or predictability
to remind a too proud humanity that the bigger it builds its
fire the more of its aggregate _cluelessness_ is illuminated.

It remains, as you point out, why the brave attempt must be made
to do so, continue building the fire, because if all you have to
use is a spoon, you use the spoon for a shovel if digging _must_
be done. But we ought to know it, still. We ought to admit,
bravely, where a spoon for a shovel might have its shortcomings.
I don't think we do.
