Billy Cox Ostensibly, the Obama White House had nothing to worry about with at least two UFO petitions circulating on its =93We the People=94 website. Vague, inferential, and submitted without a factoid of evidence that =93an extraterrestrial presence [is] engaging the human race,=94 the appeal that drew the most signatures for =93UFO disclosure=94 was a guaranteed DOA. At least, at first glance. What was mildly intriguing about the White House response =97 its contents as predictable as stank on roadkill =97 was its timing. Conventional wisdom holds that if your hand is being forced in Washington and you want to minimize its impact, you release your statement/data/whatever on Friday night, after the press has knocked off for the weekend and is deep into Happy Hour suds. And that's exactly what White House Office of Science & Technology Policy advisor Phil Larson did. Declaring that =93The U.S. government has no evidence that any life exists outside our planet, or that an extraterrestrial presence has contacted or engaged any member of the human race,=94 Larson hit the send button and zipped a press release into the media dead zone. By Monday, however, mainstream outlets from The Wall Street Journal to USA Today were dutifully slurping it up, the way they always do. Obviously disappointed was retired USAF captain Robert Salas, whose 2010 press conference in Washington with half a dozen other military veterans testifying to UFO activity above nuke- weapons bases was ignored by the MSM. Salas' petition had collected 387 signatures above the 5,000-name threshold/30-day deadline initially imposed by the White House to guarantee an automatic answer.
