Welcome To The Jungle
by Billy Cox

The book is thin, 85 pages, self-published =97 not that there=92s
anything wrong with that, especially in these shabby illiterate
times. It has been languishing beneath a ton of desk clutter
since November, unsolicited, thank you, Vantage Press.

The title is disproportionate to its size: The Mysterious
Lindsey Lights: One Family=92s True Encounters with Strange Lights
in the Sky Near Lindsey, Wisconsin. The author is Betty May
Ockerl. On the glossy back cover, Betty May tells readers only
what they need to know, that she is =93a longtime resident of
Lindsey, Wisconsin,=94 who has =93engaged in extensive research to
better understand the causes of the mysterious Lindsey lights.=94

The foreword is written by a neighbor named Diane Luchterhand.
Diane qualified on account of her own confession that she once
saw a UFO during summer camp in the 1960s. Diane praises Betty
May for =93giving me the opportunity to write the foreword=94 and
commends Betty May=92s =93bravery for writing about a subject that
most people would find uneasy to talk about.=94

Betty May writes about a series of nocturnal lights in the sky
in rural Wisconsin, mostly from 2004-07, and mostly with her
teenage daughter Amanda. She illustrates it with sketches of the
lights they saw, hovering above stick-figure trees, arranged in
various chevron, diagonal, and horizontal formations. In 2006,
after being alerted to a sighting by the roar of military jets,
she picked up the phone, her =93heart pounding,=94 and reported it
to the U.S. Army base at Fort McCoy Garrison. The PIO asked if
she had photos. Betty May said no. She has no photos from any of
her sightings.
