I think the rule is to follow the money. Very true William, That always seems to work for finding the 'big' organized networks behind deception and corruption of many types. However, as George Monbiot [UK journalist] points out at: www.monbiot.com/2010/12/13/reclaim-the-cyber-commons/ there are many supposedly 'real' people who are working (some paid - some volunteers) to create massive amounts of "noise" - nearly all misinformation and even downright lies, on all sorts of subjects. Of interest is the occasionally admitted fact that UK and US mil/sec (some paid by the taxpayer - some by corporates) have people working more or less full-time at creating or diverting interest on Internet groups. We can fairly safely assume that many (or maybe most) of the persistent and obvious idiot-debunkers, trolls and flamers come from such groups, as well as the scare-mongers.
