This (or variants thereof) has application to Fermi's Paradox, as has been discussed here previously. That is, while intelligent life may be widespread, there may be such an enormous technological/intellectual barrier to practical interstellar travel that whoever may have figured it out was already evolved completely out of our realm of perception. I personally waver in and out of sympathy with this idea. If true, it would seem to suggest that 'flying saucers' have little or nothing to do with ETs. The former do not strike me as radically exotic, but rather just beyond our grasp in the long- term evolutionary and cultural/historical picture (and in this sense they are disturbingly, even suspiciously, anthropocentric). >Where did this 'Earth is special' guff com from? Well, wherever it comes from >I'd recommend dumping it double-quick if you want to get an >objective handle on this stuff. I confess my concern is quite the opposite. As a whole, I don't get the impression that humans consider Earth, or its current inhabitants, very special at all. Mike Listen to 'Strange Days...
