The following listed papers pertain to both the Kooks discussion
and to the Pseudoscience discussion

(Can some "non-believers" be characterized as "kooks" doing

Rees is not the first to refer to UFO witnesses as "kooks".

Edward Condon of the Condon Report - Scientific Investigation of
Unidentified Flying Objects, 1969 - was not as blunt but did
refer to witnesses as "poor observers".

However, years later I ran directly into the "kook"
characterization of witnesses when I submitted my report on the
New Zealand sightings (December 31, 1978) to the refereed
technical journal Applied Optics.

This journal, late in 1978, published an article that suggested
that at least some UFO reports of lights in the sky were
actually reports of "glowing insects" - made to glow by electric
discharge from their antennae and legs!

Because this article was published in Applied Optics I thought
that there was a possibility that AO might publish my report on
the optical analysis of the 16 mm color film obtained during
part of the Dec. 31 sightings.

Ultimately what I wrote was published but not before the real
opinion of the editor, John Howard, was clearly stated to me in
a letter: UFO believers are "99 and 44/100 percent kooks".

For more amusing details about "kooks", the articles that were
published and plenty of "pseudoscience" by "non-believers" see:
