More interesting, and maybe an indicator of the attitude of 'authority' to the UFO phenomenon was the fact that the police planted a 'bug' or listening device in the room with Hickson and Parker. That sort of invasion of privacy could be justified by police in the case of suspected criminals: kidnappers, murderers etc. - on the grounds of public safety.
